Counseling and Equine Assisted Learning Services
Services Overview
Equine Assisted Mentoring
Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can grow through meaningful service and therapeutic interactions with animals. Through hands-on experiences, participants receive immediate feedback, helping them understand how their positive actions impact the world around them.
Participants will develop trust and communication skills by learning to set boundaries and apply effective relationship-building strategies with the animals. These interactions serve as a powerful, real-time reflection of social dynamics, allowing participants to experience the direct consequences of their choices in a safe and structured setting.
Throughout the program, participants will gain practical tools to manage impulses, improve thought processes, and navigate personal and interpersonal challenges—building skills that extend well beyond the farm.
Mentoring Objectives:
1. Improve communication skills in relationships with others
2. Increase confidence through the completion of challenging tasks
3. Develop and maintain a broader perspective on life experiences
4. Reduce pain, trauma related responses on a neurological level, and gain awareness into how the body is connected to the mind
Counseling Services Offered
EQUINE THERAPY
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) focuses on mental health and behavioral change by creating immediate cause-and-effect experiences. It encourages clients to shift from dysfunctional patterns to more successful behaviors, gently challenges defenses in a non-threatening way, and helps break down barriers quickly.
While similar to Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL), EAP is distinct in its therapeutic focus. EAL, on the other hand, is centered around educational and developmental goals such as improving sales performance, leadership skills, team building, resilience training, or advancing knowledge for school groups.
Both EAP and EAL require a licensed mental health professional and a trained equine specialist working together as a team to deliver brief, intensive interventions. All equine-related sessions are conducted with this two-person team model: the mental health professional focuses primarily on the client’s behaviors, while the equine specialist attends to the horse’s well-being and responses throughout the session.
INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING
Individual and family counseling at Horse & Soul Counseling offers a safe, confidential, and supportive environment where you can work one-on-one or with family members alongside a licensed therapist. This process provides space to explore feelings, beliefs, and influential memories, helping you work toward meaningful change defined by your own goals.
Counseling sessions take place outdoors in a natural setting on our farm and can be conducted either with or without the integration of horses, depending on your preference and therapeutic needs.
GROUP COUNSELING
Our group counseling services utilize a solution-focused approach aimed at empowering participants to build social connections and develop vital life skills. Group topics may include:
Strengthening relationships and communication
Problem-solving strategies
Interpersonal skills
Hygiene and personal care
Impulse control and emotional regulation
Safety and community participation (including internet safety)
Conflict resolution and boundary setting
At Horse & Soul Counseling, we believe mental health matters and strive to create supportive spaces for growth and connection.
